Measure L is expected to fund at least two more playground replacements in the next year.
What’s left of English Oaks Park’s playground equipment is more than 25 years old and in need of replacement. Beckman Park’s playground was removed 15 years ago due to unsafe conditions.
English Oaks’ playground will be more of a traditional playground, based on the results of Parks and Recreation’s outreach meeting with neighborhood residents in 2017. English Oaks has also been called “Hidden Park” for its location south of Tokay High School, where it connects to neighborhoods and Beckman Elementary School via walkways and at Dorchester, Dartmoor and Newbury circles.
Beckman Park’s new equipment will be more of an exercise playground where adults can improve their endurance, strength and cardiovascular fitness. Beckman Park is at Century Boulevard and Ham Lane. Most of the park is within a storm drainage basin, but the playground location is at street level near the restroom on Ham Lane.
